Mafisa buys cattle, which we own and insure. Local farmers manage them, keeping the milk for sales and home consumption. We provide a free animal health programme, improving health and reproduction. We also work with farmers, using extensive grazing to improve the health of the natural rangelands. After four to five years, we sell the cattle, giving the farmers a share. Most farmers aim to keep their share in kind, using Mafisa as an opportunity to build their own herds.
